Test what you read. Here's how to get the most out of Litmus.

Getting started

Litmus uses your own AI provider key, so the app is free and your checks stay private.

  • Get an API key from Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI.
  • Open Litmus → Settings, choose your provider, paste the key, and tap Save.
  • Go to Check, paste a claim or link (or use a photo), and tap Check.

Ways to fact-check

  • In the app — paste text or a link, or take/choose a photo.
  • Share sheet — from any app, share text, a link, or a screenshot to Litmus.
  • Siri & Shortcuts — say "Hey Siri, fact-check my clipboard."

Frequently asked

Why do I need my own API key?

It keeps Litmus private and free to download: your reading goes straight to the provider you choose, never through our servers (we don't have any).

Is my data collected?

No. Your key, history, and cache stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy.

What do the verdicts mean?

Each claim is rated True, False, Misleading, or Unverifiable, with a confidence level and the sources used. When something is false or misleading, Litmus also shows what's actually true.

A check failed or returned an error.

Make sure a valid key is saved in Settings and that your provider account has credit. Network errors are usually transient — try again.
