Privacy Policy

Last updated 16 June 2026

In short: we collect nothing.

Litmus is a fact-checking app that runs on your device. It has no backend servers operated by the developer, requires no account, and contains no analytics, tracking, or advertising. The developer does not collect, receive, store, or sell any of your information.

What stays on your device

  • API key — the OpenAI or Anthropic key you enter is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device and is never sent to the developer.
  • History & cache — the claims you check and their verdicts are saved locally so you can review and reuse them. You can delete any item or clear everything at any time in the app.
  • Photos — if you take or choose a photo, its text is read on-device. The image is not uploaded anywhere by the app.

What gets sent, and to whom

To produce a verdict, Litmus sends the specific claim (and minimal surrounding context) over an encrypted connection directly to the AI provider you chose — OpenAI or Anthropic — using your own API key. That provider performs a web search and returns the verdict and sources. This happens between your device and that provider; it does not pass through the developer.

Your use of that provider is governed by its own privacy policy and terms:

On supported devices, the step that extracts claims from your text runs entirely on-device using Apple's on-device models, with no network connection at all.

Children

Litmus is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
